STAM

Steps from L’Athenée, STAM is a authentic Brussels bar situated on a pleasant little square, overlooked by the old, slightly battered buildings which feature in this part of Ixelles. When we are in the area, we love going there to have a beer in the evening.

Let’s start with a fun fact. STAM sits in the premises of a former bakery of which it has retained the beautiful tiled floor. The pattern of the tiles served as inspiration for the logo of the bar. The seating area is quite small, but beautifully designed with wooden furniture and cast iron elements. During the day, it’s a nice play to have a coffee, drink the newspaper of even do some work.

Although so far we’ve only been to STAM for beers, it is also possible to have brunch or lunch here. It’s nothing fancy, but apparently they serve excellent burgers & fries.

The beer menu isn’t super extensive, but the selection is varied and has something for everyone. Prices average around 2 EUR for a lager beer and 4,50 EUR for a typically Belgian trappist beer. They also have a long list of cocktails which cost around 8-9 EUR. You can also make a deal by ordering your cocktail per liter.

On a sunny day or a warm evening, it’s nice to sit on their large outdoor terrace which has studenty feel with its long tables and benches. Already in the morning the terrace is bathing in sunlight, which helps to explain why it fills up so quickly. In the evening it’s lit by street lighting, thereby creating a laidback atmosphere where time flies.
